ATEX certified filter versions for work with explosive dusts and installation in explosive environments

The rules for the use of equipment and systems in explosive environments are set out in the ATEX directive.
Only a properly designed, operated and maintained dust filtration system can be integrated into an explosive dust management system.
Filter units for work with potentially explosive dusts can be divided into four categories:
- A standard filter unit of unreinforced construction, but grounded in cases where potential sources of fire must be avoided due to safety requirements;
- A reinforced construction unit is designed for work with explosive dusts, therefore the structure is strong enough to contain a dust explosion inside the unit. All internal components of the structure must comply with the requirements of the ATEX directive and have the appropriate markings. Such filtration units are equipped with blast wave discharge panels, flame arresters or explosion suppression devices. If such a reinforced filter unit is installed in a non-explosive environment, then it does not fall within the scope of the ATEX directive and will not have the ATEX marking and the corresponding certificate;
- An ATEX certified filter unit can be used in a potentially explosive environment and will meet the requirements of the ATEX directive and will have the corresponding markings, but they will only inform that all external components of the filter unit are suitable for use in an explosive environment and the filtered dust is not explosive.
- A reinforced ATEX certified filter unit is intended for use with potentially explosive dust or product and is installed in an explosive environment. However, this ATEX marking on this type of unit is intended only for the external components of the unit.
