Diaphragm valves for dust filters
The diaphragm valves used in dust filtration plants are a critical component of the system to ensure that the filter elements are effectively shaken. During filtration, dust accumulates on the surface of the filters and is compressed into dense caps that block airflow and reduce filtration efficiency. The diaphragm valve periodically releases short pulses of compressed air that send a shock wave through the filter element, causing the dust cap to break away and fall into the collection hopper.
Valve composition and operating principle
The diaphragm valve consists of several main parts:
- Housing – made of aluminium or stainless steel
- Diaphragm (membrane) – a flexible membrane that regulates the airflow
- Solenoid coil – an electromagnetic coil that controls the movement of the diaphragm
- Spring – returns the diaphragm to its original position after the pulse
When the controller sends an electrical signal, the solenoid coil instantly opens the diaphragm, releasing a pulse of high-pressure air (5-8 bar). The valve is normally closed and opened only for a short pulse, ensuring efficient use of the compressed air.
Signs of a faulty valve
A ruptured or stuck membrane has serious consequences:
- Weak or uneven air pulses – insufficient shaking of filters
- Increasing pressure differential – filters clog faster
- Increased compressed air consumption
- Audible air leakage from the valve
